European rugs
The rugs of the isolated mountain people are usually very simple, with much natural wool and uncomplicated motifs that remind you of our American Navajos.
None of these native rugs of Central Europe were well known or plentiful. Between World War I and World War II, Poland created schools to revive the old arts and crafts, and some Ukrainian rugs (called Polish Kilims) were made for exhibition and export.
Also in Greece and the Balkans commercial Oriental rug weaving has been carried on to some extent in later years.
